Duncan Glendinning, Founder of The Thoughtful Bread Company

Duncan attacks everything he does with real passion, enthusiasm, eagerness and a “joie de vivre” that makes it hard not to want to want to get involved, making him a natural leader and true ambassador for the “thoughtful” cause...

Duncan Glendinning's core skills lie in web development after graduating with a Bsc Hons degree in Computer Science from the University of Bath, and therefore will be looking to use his extensive experience to develop the business' online presence as well as developing the website's e-commerce branch as an additional revenue stream.

He has some experience of running a private limited company having set up a student discount card scheme in Bath which ran successfully for a couple of years before being sold back to the University's Student Union. This venture required business acumen which he lacked but made up for by studying for a nationally-recognised NCFE Level 3 diploma in “Entrepreneurship and business start-up”. Raising start-up capital also led him to go through the testing Princes' Trust funding scheme for which he was successful and he also won a business plan competition run through the university in the process.

Outside of his academia and business experience Duncan has developed a keen interest in growing his own veg and foraging which led to a few appearances on the BBC2 series “It's not easy being green”. From then he went on to become appointed as manager of sustainability for Tribewanted.com a community-run cultural eco-tourism project based out in Fiji. Described as being “an infectiously passionate mad professor type from Bath” by a prominent Guardian Newspaper journalist, Fiji is where his real passion for the environment and sustainability developed, working on everything from building a biogas plant to hot water heating systems and working with local schoolchildren teaching them about the merits of the Reduce Reuse Recycle mantra.

Since returning from Fiji and whilst researching and planning the start-up of the Thoughtful Bread Co. Duncan Glendinning has been researching and building clay ovens like the ones the business makes use of to bake the bread.

He has also been very recently chosen amongst thousands as one of the lucky few entrepreneurs chosen to join the Courvoisier The Future 500 network in partnership with the Observer newspaper. Finally he has recently started a distance learning qualification in Business Finance through Strode College.
